What We Do - Programs & Events

HOME is organizing:
- An ongoing monthly film and expert lecture series
on the environment, ecology and related topics at various strategic
locations appropriate for film and video projections. The cost of
these events will be underwritten by donations and at no cost to
the public.
- The development and production of a short film
and/or a major media broadcast project on the impact of climate
change on the infrastructure and lifestyle in San Diego per se,
based on the best available expert projections cited in state and
local govt-sanctioned reports.
- Sponsorship for the annual University of California
at San Diego's annual student Earth Week Video Festival, providing
the cash scholarships, the Torrey trophies and gift packages for
the three best entries every April as part of their Earth Week programs.
The event is the ESI/HOME VidFest on "environment and sustainability."
(ESI is the UCSD Environment and Sustainability Initiative.) All
entries will be based on this them and up to 10 minutes in duration.
There are plans to expand and engage other college campuses to compete
in 2008.
- A comprehensive information clearinghouse and
contact information for other organizations, associations, agencies,
businesses and individuals addressing climate change…including information
on: alternative energy, new, clean fuel sources... more efficient
products.....the latest research on climate and earth science and
developments in local, state and federal legislation.
- Support the forthcoming San Diego exhibits on
climate change and global warming. Three major exhibits are being
planned for 2007-2008.
- Assistance in developing educational programs
on environmental science for elementary, middle and upper level
classes.
- To replicate our community education programs
and assist cities and localities in starting HOME chapters.
